Floris Hovers (1976) lives and works in Raamsdonk where he also grew up. After a foundation course in architecture and a course in Advertising and Presentation Technology in Utrecht, he graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2004. In 2006 he started his own design studio, five years later he was awarded the Sanoma Woonaward ‘Young Talent’.
He also worked as a teacher at the art academy AKV|St. Joost, specializing in Spatial Design. Currently, he teaches color and composition at the Design Academy Eindhoven, and regularly gives lectures and guest lectures at home and abroad.
Hovers takes you into his world of form, color, and proportion. A world that is created while playing and exploring. Hovers thinks back to his childhood with nostalgia. ‘I observed, interpreted, and then recreated it my way – and I still do. As a boy, I already lived in my own little world. I long for autonomy in thought and action. For childlike simplicity. You recognize that longing in the fantasy city in which you can ‘disappear’ completely. The city is constructed from leftover wooden pieces and recycled materials, painted in soft, fresh colors. The clarity, playfulness, and naivety of the objects make the whole enormously attractive, approachable, and recognizable – it makes you want to play too.
